Query Letter Contents :
We refer to the above article appearing in The New Straits Times, Business
Section, cover page on Friday 3 March 2000, a copy of which is enclosed for
your reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined
sentences, which are reproduced as follows:-
"After more than a year, the deal for Petronas to buy a stake in national car
manufacturer Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Bhd from Hicom Holdings Bhd will
finally be signed today.
However, unlike previously anticipated, the deal may not include Proton buying
Hicom's stake in Edaran Otomobil Nasional Bhd, the distributors of the national
car.
As of late yesterday, it is believed both Proton and Hicom could not agree on a
price for the EON stake.
The signing is expected to see Proton buying up DRB's stake in USPD.
Petronas, it is learnt, will pay about RM1 billion for Hicom's 27.2 per cent
interest in Proton. This puts the price of each Proton share at RM7 each --
Petronas' original offer price.
Today's signing is also not expected to include the purchase by Petronas of any
automotive component manufacturing companies."
