On behalf of Maybank, Aseambankers Malaysia Berhad ("Aseambankers") is writing in reply to your query dated 22 August 2000 quoting an article appearing in Business Times, pages 1 & 24, on 22 August 2000, as mentioned above.
Maybank wish to inform the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange that at this juncture, the negotiation is still on-going and there is no revised offer made nor any sale and purchase agreement executed between the parties involved.

We refer to the above article appearing in Business Times, pages 1 & 24, on 22
August 2000, a copy of which is enclosed for your reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined
sentences, which are reproduced as follows:-
"Maybank is believed to have proposed afresh to acquire only the banking and
stockbroking operations of Phileo and allow the merger of Maybank and Phileo
Allied Bank Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Phileo, to proceed as scheduled."
" ... Maybank's new proposal will see Phileo retaining its listed status and
all of its other operations."
