We refer to your fax dated 13 November 2000 in respect of the above mentioned article which appeared in The New Straits Times, Business Section, on Wednesday, 11 October 2000.
We would like to confirm that the increase of approximately 50 per cent pre-tax profit is based on the estimated profit before tax of RM55.7 million compared to the previous financial year of RM37.1 million, where the approximate 10 per cent increase in turnover is based on the estimated turnover of RM550.9 million as compared to RM495.5 million for the financial year ended 31 January 2000. The estimated profit before tax and turnover are derived from the quarterly report on consolidated results for the financial period ended 31 July 2000 which have been announced and six (6) months estimated figures.

Query Letter Contents :
We refer to the Company’s announcement dated 12 October 2000 confirming the
above mentioned article which appeared in The New Straits Times, Business
Section, on Wednesday 11 October 2000.
The Exchange has found the aforesaid announcement to be inadequate and require
an announcement for public release in accordance with Section 341 of the Main
Board Listing Requirements ("MBLR"), in particular Section 341(3)(c) in respect
of the statement that "Talam expects an increase of about 50% pre-tax profit on
the back of about 10% increase in turnover. "
Pursuant to Section 341(3)(c) of the MBLR, the content of a press or other
public announcement is as important as its timing. Each announcement should be
balanced and fair. Thus, the announcement should avoid presentation of
projections without sufficient qualification or without sufficient factual
basis.
