The Board of Malaysia British Assurance Berhad ("MBA") refers to the query from the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange dated 26 February 2001 regarding the above matter and wishes to state for public announcement that:
"The Board has not received any notice from any of its Directors or Substantial Shareholders that he/they has/have been approached by the France-based AXA Group on any interest that he/they may have in MBA.
The Board will inform the Exchange if it receives any such notice."

We refer to the above news article appearing in The Sun, Sun Biz section, page
20, on Saturday, 24 February 2001, a copy of which is enclosed for your
reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined sentence
which is reproduced as follows:-
"Speculation was also rife that France-based AXA Group might be interested to
take a stake in MBA."
In accordance with the Exchange's Corporate Disclosure Policy, you are

confirming or denying the above reported article and in particular the
