We refer to your letter dated 11 September, 2000 in respect of the abovementioned article and wish to advise that:-
(i) the proposed merger of the banking subsidiaries of AMMB Holdings Berhad (“AHB”) and Utama Banking Group Berhad (“UBG”) does not involve a merger of AHB’s stockbroking subsidiary, Arab-Malaysian Securities Sdn Bhd, with Sarawak Securities Sdn Bhd; and
(ii) AHB is exploring ways in which the listing status of Arab-Malaysian Finance Berhad can be maintained.
Query Letter Contents :
We refer to the above article appearing in The New Straits Times, Business
Section, page 21, on Monday, 11 September 2000, a copy of which is enclosed for
your reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined
sentences, which is reproduced as follows:-
"Arab-Malaysian Securities is expected to merge with Sarawak Securities as a
result of a merger
between their banking groups..."
"...AMMB Holdings Bhd (AHB) was likely to use the listing status of
Arab-Malaysian Finance Bhd
(AMFB) for Arab-Malaysian Securities, which is expected to be the anchor in
the merger with
Sarawak Securities."
