| Working experience and occupation | Dato’ Seri was formerly the Chief Minister of the State of Perak and had held various portfolios in the Government namely as Parliamentary Secretary of Rural Development in 1983, Deputy Minister of National and Rural Development in 1986, Deputy Minister of Energy, Telecommunications and Post in 1990, Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government in 1995, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs in 1997 and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in January 1999. Dato’ Seri has been an assemblymen since he was first elected in 1977 and a member of Parliament from 1978 to 1999. Apart from his extensive contribution to the public administration, Dato’ Seri has also played a very active role in the development and activities of youth within Malaysia and the Asian region. He was the President of the Malaysian Youth Council and the Secretary General of the Working Committee for ASEAN Youth Council from 1982 to 1986. From 1988 to 1991, he was the President of the Asian Youth Council. Besides his career in the public sector, Dato’ Seri had also served in the private sector in various capacities for 15 years. Amongst the position he had held are Director of Applied Management Consultant Sdn Bhd, an IT consultancy company and Managing Director of Rosli, Gan & Co., which specialized in outsourcing of accounting and company secretarial services. |
