We wish to inform you that there have not been any discussions by the Board of SHMB in connection with the intended sale by Landmarks Berhad of its 26.62% stake in SHMB at the price range between RM160 million and RM200 million. Under the circumstances, we are unable to comment on the statement disclosed in the article.

We refer to the above article appearing in The STAR, Business Section, Page 3
on Thursday 6 April 2000, a copy of which is enclosed for your reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined
sentences, which are reproduced as follows:-
"....Landmarks was considering selling its stakes in Shangri-La Hotel (M)
Bhd...to reduce the group's debt of RM700mil."
"Landmarks expects to sell its Shangri-La stake for between RM160mil and
