We refer to your letter dated 2 January 2001 faxed to us on 2 January 2001 under your reference PL-010102-37548 with regard to the article which appeared in The Star, Business Section, page 1 on 2 January 2001 and in particular to the underlined sentences in the said article which are reproduced as follows :-
“In turn, Arab-Malaysian banking group has applied to start negotiations with Danamodal Nasional Berhad to merge with MBf Finance Berhad, whose planned merger with Multi-Purpose Bank Berhad also fallen through.”
The Board of Directors of Malaysia Plantations Berhad wishes to inform that Multi-Purpose Bank Berhad ("MP Bank") has, after due deliberations and with the approval of the Minister of Finance decided to abort the proposed acquisition of 60% equity interest in MBf Finance Berhad.
Accordingly, the Sale and Purchase Agreement dated 30 August 2000 between Danamodal Nasional Berhad and MP Bank will be terminated in due course. An announcement has been released by Commerce International Merchant Bankers Berhad on behalf of the Company on even date.

We refer to the above news article appearing in The Star, Business section,
page 1 , on 2 January 2001, a copy of which is enclosed for your reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined sentence
which is reproduced as follows:-
